My love of hummingbirds and their perspective of the natural world inspires my traditional artwork. I produce prints and pins based off of my work under the name hummingbird circle studios.
In developing hummingbird circle studios, I wanted to create artwork that reflected hummingbirds' individuality while also featuring diverse species to bring awareness to dwindling habitat. Hummingbird migrations alone are — incredibly unimaginable — thousand mile journeys, and some fly nonstop right over the 500 mile Gulf of Mexico stretch! You will see some familiar characters in my work, including our visiting Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that are always a source of inspiration. Many of the reference photos I use come from my mother's beautiful photography.
Mediums include: watercolors, gouache, Crayola crayons, POSCA paint pens, Artistro paint markers, colored pencils, Copic alcohol markers, Ohuhu brush markers. The choice of medium depends on the particular feel the hummingbirds — as well as the scene — convey.
